Discover the Excitement of Mafia

Mafia is one of the world’s most popular social deduction games, combining strategy, communication, teamwork, and deception into a thrilling experience. Whether played at family gatherings, schools, parties, or team-building events, Mafia challenges players to think critically, read social cues, and work together to uncover hidden enemies.

At Jordan Poly, we believe that games are more than entertainment—they help develop communication skills, critical thinking, and social interaction. Mafia is a perfect example of a game that brings people together while creating unforgettable moments of suspense and excitement.

What Is Mafia?

Mafia is a social deduction game where players are divided into two opposing teams:

  • The Citizens (Good Team)
  • The Mafia (Bad Team)

The Citizens aim to identify and eliminate all Mafia members before they lose control of the town. Meanwhile, the Mafia secretly works together to eliminate Citizens until their numbers equal the remaining Citizens, allowing them to take over the game.

The game relies heavily on discussion, observation, persuasion, and strategic decision-making.

Main Roles in the Game

Citizens (Innocent Players)

Citizens make up the majority of players. They do not possess special abilities but play a crucial role in discussions and voting. Their objective is to identify the Mafia members through observation and reasoning.

Mafia Members

The Mafia is a smaller group whose members know each other’s identities. During the night phase, they secretly choose one player to eliminate. Their goal is to remain hidden while reducing the number of Citizens.

Doctor

The Doctor belongs to the good team and has the ability to save one player each night from being eliminated. The Doctor may choose to protect themselves or another player.

Detective (Police Officer)

The Detective is another special role on the good team. Every night, the Detective investigates one player and learns whether that player is a Mafia member or innocent.

Narrator (Game Master)

The Narrator is a neutral facilitator who controls the flow of the game. They guide players through each phase, manage the special roles, and ensure the game runs smoothly.

How the Game Is Played

The game consists of two repeating phases: Night and Day.

Phase 1: Night

At the beginning of the night, all players close their eyes.

The Narrator then activates the special roles in sequence:

Mafia Turn

The Mafia members open their eyes and silently agree on one player to eliminate. Once the decision is made, they close their eyes again.

Doctor Turn

The Doctor wakes up and selects one player to protect from elimination.

Detective Turn

The Detective wakes up and points to one player they wish to investigate. The Narrator secretly indicates whether that player is a Mafia member or not.

After all special roles have completed their actions, the night phase ends.

Phase 2: Day

All players open their eyes.

The Narrator announces the results of the night:

  • If the Doctor successfully protected the target, no player is eliminated.
  • If the protection fails or no protection was given, the eliminated player is revealed and removed from the game.

Following the announcement, players engage in an open discussion. During this stage, participants share suspicions, defend themselves, accuse others, and attempt to uncover the Mafia’s identity.

After the discussion, a vote is held. The player who receives the highest number of votes is removed from the game.

The cycle then repeats, moving back into another night phase.

How to Win

Citizens Win When:

All Mafia members are successfully identified and eliminated.

Mafia Wins When:

The number of Mafia members becomes equal to the number of remaining Citizens, giving the Mafia effective control over the game.
